Ships Ahoy

Two photos above are of the one of the ships of the Hurtigruten line docked near sentrum.

The two photos above are taken from the end of our building, so the ship is rather far away, but you can see by the number of decks how large a ship it is.

Mike took the two shots above of a ship's smokestack (?? I guess that is what it is called on a ship ... chimney?) of an apparently Italian liner. That's actually a warehouse in front of it, so most of the ship is obscured.

We see a lot more large cruise ships coming and going these days--or maybe we just notice them more because we are always in daylight this time of year. The Hurtigruten, the Norwegian coastal cruise liners, certainly run year-round carrying cargo, mail and passengers. It would be a great way to see Norway, but it takes time with all the stops along the many inlets on the Norwegian coast--which is the beauty of it really. From Tromsø to Bodø it takes 24 hours on the Hurtigruten. Bodø is a city still well north of the arctic circle, and is about 560km (about 350 miles) road distance—plus a ride on a ferry—south of Tromsø.
