It had begun to rain just a bit when we arrived in Kristiansand, but Mike's Uncle Odd was there to meet us, so we didn't have to deal with the rain much. Of course it was my first time to meet him, and Mike hadn't seen his uncle since 1999 when Uncle Odd and Aunt Karen-Mai came to Arizona to visit Mike's parents. Mike had not been to Kristiansand since 1971. In just a short drive from the station, we arrived at Vindmøllegangen ("Windmill Road") where Odd and Karen-Mai have a beautiful home. The home originally belonged to Mike's Great-Grandmother Tomine (I think that spelling is correct ...), and Mike's mother grew up in the house. When Odd and Karen-Mai moved there in 1975 to look after his father, they completely remodeled the home, so it was greatly changed from what Mike remembered. Karen-Mai served us a wonderful homemade fiske suppe (fish soup) and an excellent bløtkake (a sponge-type layer cake with whipped cream and raspberries) when we arrived.
