Houses of Many Colors

In Tromsø, houses come in many colors--red, gold, blue, white, brown, etc.--Mike and I took a few pictures on our walk down to Sentrum (the downtown shopping area) yesterday and on our way to church today. The brown house with the blue door is the bishop's house--that's actually a stained-glass transom above the door.
The weather seems very cold today, though it's hovering close to freezing. We checked the weather report when we got home from church, about 1 o'clock, and it was 1 degree warmer in Tromsø than in Modoc (37 degrees in Tromsø/36 in Modoc)! Of course it was 7 a.m. in Indiana ... but nevertheless! The sun is setting about 4:30 now, and we loose about 10 minutes of daylight every day on our way to the polar night. (The "polar night" is what they call the time from mid-Novermber, when the sun sets, to mid-January, when it rises again.) The moon has been beautiful here, appearing just above the mountains and moving across the sky just above them.
Wednesday evening there is a meeting for international students to explain about what vitamins are needed, and what type of clothing is best for the winter weather, and I'm sure about the effects of losing daylight. It coincides with Mike's Norwegian class, so I am going to go to the meeting and take notes. I'm sure they will suggest that we take Tran (Møller's is the brand we see here)--that is what they call cod-liver oil, which is rich in vitamin D and omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamins A and E are added. Tran is actually recommended by the Norwegian government from ages 4-6 weeks through all of life. So it must be pretty good for you!
Best to all!
Mike and Mary

I thought the purple house was particularly striking. If I thought I could get away with something like that in my subdivision, I'd do it! But I suspect the neighbors might not find it as appealing as I do.
